Ruthvens
Kingsnake Caresheet Available HERE Ruthvens Kingsnake or Queretaro Kingsnake as it is some times known come
from the Mexican States of Michoacan, Queretaro, Jalisco and Durango,
here they are found in dry, rocky woodlands at quiet high altitudes.
Adult snakes reach lengths of up to 3 foot. Hatchlings are approx 6-8
inches, and can be difficult to get started as there prefered food in
the wild would be small lizards. Our hatchlings generally take defrosted
pinkies from the start and grow quickly. Often they reach breeding size
in less than two years Albino
Ruthvens Kingsnakes were the first tri-coloured
kingsnakes to be produced in captivity. First bred by
Steve and Karen Osborne of Professional Breeders USA
from a heterozygous specimen from the original collection
of wild caught specimens used to describe the
species from Mesa Central type locality of Amealco,
Queretaro, Mexico. Ruthven
Kingsnakes are the most primitive
of the Kingsnakes, and
it has been suggested they are responsible for the evolution
of several other species including mexicana, triangulum, pyromelena,
and alterna.
Albino Ruthvens have been responsible for the introduction
of the albino gene into many of the King & Milksnake
species because of there close relationship. Wild Type Ruthvens
have black red black bands on a grey or cream/brown background.
Albino Ruthvens are
considered by many Kingsnake enthusiasts to be the most
beautiful of all the Albino's. In shades of reds, oranges,
yellows, whites & pinks they are truly a stunning animal.
There striking beauty has made them more popular in the
hobby than the wild or normal coloured animals.
We have two distinct lines of the albino, in the first the bands are
cream orange cream on a yellowish background. The second has white red
white bands on a yellowish background. As well as breeding Albino Ruthvens
we produce a number of heterozygous animals each year.
